The Budget

Gordon Brown, on behalf of the Labour Party, is sending our country down the drain in splendid fashion. Scrapping the 10% tax bracket in favour of 20% on all earnings above 5k is just about the most ridiculous and vote-losing policy he could have come up with.

So I'm actually happy with it. Maybe now people will see sense and vote Lib Dem, the only party who gives a damn about the public or the environment!
Brown says the average family will be better off... so answer me this, how is it that out of over 22000 votes cast on a BBC poll, over 60% responded that they will be *worse* off under the new budget?!!!!

To see Ming's response to the budget and get an idea of how other people feel about Labour because of it go here:

Hi Holly!
I agree with you, even if I am pretty much unaffected by the tax reform (actually I end up paying slightly less). However, this will just make things more difficult for the poorer and the riches will party with champagne.
I am not able to vote in the UK (I am Italian) but at least I can add my voice to yours with a comment in the blog.
People please think when you vote! It's for your own good!
Furthermore, I made a quick calculation and found out that the limit for being unaffected is not £15000, like it is said in the article you linked, but it is approximately £17000, if I get the numbers correctly.
I used this simple equation:
0.10 * (2000) + 0.22 * (x-7000) = 0.20 (x-5000)
The left part should be the previous tax formula (correct me if I am wrong), the right part is the new tax formula.

Bye!
Dario

Hi Dario!

Andy said the tip-over was £17,000 too. I'll have to take your word for it on the maths :-p

Hello Holly and Signor Domizioli.

Clearly, when they say "average", they mean "median" rather than "mean". The affluent middle class (who actually vote, and pay attention to tax agendas) will be fine.

This is Ludwig, prime architect of your dear husband's frustration and madness, by the way.
